Welcome to our Parks family tree!

Some families know a great deal about their roots, others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart.
We managed to contact a distant relative in England through the Yahoo web site.

On this page I'll provide a little information about who I am and what inspired me to do this research. Most of this information was probably obtained from talking to living relatives and from researching public records. In the course of doing this research, I've discovered that I have many more relatives than I ever thought possible!
This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.
I grew up in the original family home that my great grandparents built when they first came out to Australia from Somerset in 1860. We have the original family bible that recorded the family births and deaths etc. Growing up I learnt a lot about the family as my parents fathers were brothers and we had many family gatherings at "PARKSIDE" which was the properties name.
My Great Grandparents names were Robert and Eliza Parks who came out to Australia on the Morning Star arriving here in 1860. Their first child was born at "Parkside Rochford as the address was at that time. They eventually had 13 children and they lived at Rochford until their deaths in 1906. The property remained in the family with two sons residing there and then my father bought it from his uncle and eventually my brother bought it from my father and then several years ago it passed out of the family.
We have gone back with the help of my great grandfathers brother John's Great great grandson to the first member of this particular tree that we can trace, to William Parkes who was born in 1705 which is three generations before my great grandfather.
